Maintenance Technician

This position involves performance of detail oriented work to maintain the Aviary buildings and grounds in order to promote a safe, healthy, and pleasant environment for Aviary guests, staff and the birds. This is a great opportunity to gain experience working in a fun and dynamic atmosphere. Join the rest of the Tracy Aviary staff by becoming a steward for the natural world while inspiring curiosity and caring for birds and nature through education and conservation.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Daily and quarterly inspection and maintenance of Aviary to provide a safe, clean and tidy appearance. 

Perform work requests as directed by Director of Horticulture and Facilities. Coordinates implementation of work requests.

Participates on the Safety Committee. Maintains essential PPE supplies, issues gloves, glasses to new hires etc.

Facilitate the success of maintenance, custodial and horticulture staff and volunteers by setting an example of good work ethic, helping with projects, and staff assessment.  

Communicate issues, problems, needs, and accomplishments to supervisor and senior staff as necessary. 

Assist Aviary staff in dealing with facilities problems or emergencies. Responds to emergency requests when Director of Horticulture and Facilities is unavailable

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High School or Trade School graduate. Valid driver’s license required. Two years’ experience in grounds or facilities maintenance. Specific experience in irrigation, plumbing, welding, carpentry, HVAC, electrical or small motor repair preferred.  Strong organizational and communication skills required.

Must possess effective problem solving skills, and use of sound judgment. This person should have the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency or sensitive situations along with the ability to carry out work according to policy and procedures.

COMMENTS

This position involves lifting heavy supplies, bending, cleaning and occasional carrying of items; use of various hand and electrical tools; working in all weather conditions. 

Typical work week is Tuesday-Saturday. This is a benefited position. 40 hours/week at $11.00 -15.00/hour depending on experience.
