Join Tracy Aviary’s bird experts for an Avian Adventure during our week-long, half-day summer camps for children going into Kindergarten through 8th grade! For a full-day camp experience, enroll your child in both our AM and PM half-day sessions or one of our partner camps.

Registering for Summer Camp

  • Child must be AT LEAST 5 years old to attend camp.
  • Child must be enrolled in the camp grade level that he or she is entering in Fall 2017.
  • Registration fees include snack, camp materials, and one camp shirt.
  • Half-day camps can be combined for a full day of camp.
  • Lunch hour between camps for all-day campers is staff monitored and does not require pick-up.
  • Space is limited to 16 participants per camp unless otherwise noted.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation e-mail of camp safety and legal forms, which can also be found at the bottom of this page. Completed forms must be provided to the camp facilitators on the first day of camp.

Grades Kindergarten and First

Rainbow of Feathers
June 12-16, 9am-12pm
Price: $130
Paints, crayons, clay, and markers—creativity in art is our focus this week as we learn about the different colors of birds and how each color aids their survival. We will explore a different part of the rainbow each day and search out the birds that wear it, exploring our spectrum of Tracy Aviary species through art projects, games, and close-up encounters with brilliant birds along the way.

Fast as a Falcon
June 12-16, 1pm-4pm
Price: $130
This week we are soaring with some of the fastest, most majestic birds in the world! In this camp, your child will get an insider’s look at what makes raptors and vultures such talented hunters and fliers. Each day we will explore the world of hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, and vultures through creative crafts, sweet songs, close encounters, and high-flying games.

Treetops and Tropics
(4-day camp, Pioneer Day Week)
July 25-28, 9am-12pm
Price: $105
The tropics may be far away, but campers can meet tropical birds right here at Tracy Aviary! In this camp, we will use our imaginations to uncover the mysteries of the world’s most diverse habitat—the tropical rainforest—while visiting our collection of colorful birds from all over the world. Bright paint and energetic games will dominate the week as we explore this magical environment.

Can’t Beat a Beak
(4-day camp, Pioneer Day Week)

July 25-28, 1pm-4pm
Price: $105
All birds have and use them, and when you’re aching for a treat, you just can’t beat a beak! Each day in camp this week we will learn about the different kinds of foods birds eat, and the amazing beaks they use to find, capture, and devour their delicious grub. Through games, explorations, and of course getting to know some of Tracy Aviary’s finest birds, we’ll have a beak-ful of fun!

Flap, Soar, Dance!
Tanner Dance Partner Camp

June 19-23, 9am-4pm
Price: $260
Cavorting, spinning, leaping, dancing a jig—all of these are things both humans and birds love to do! In this full-day camp, campers will spend mornings at Tracy Aviary exploring the different ways birds’ special sashays help them survive in their habitats. Campers will then spend afternoons at Tanner Dance engaging in dance, visual art and drama – all inspired by the motion of birds. Drop off campers at Tracy Aviary by 9am and pick up at Tanner Dance at 4pm. Transportation between sites provided. No After Care available.

Healthy Habitats and Homes
Wasatch Community Gardens Partner Camp

July 17-21, 9am-4pm
Price: $260
A healthy place to call home is a need all living things share, birds and plants alike! While some birds can have several homes that are long distances apart, plants, on the other hand, put down roots and spend their entire lives in one spot. Join Tracy Aviary and Wasatch Community Gardens as we spend a fun-filled week chasing clues, meeting new friends, and taking a closer look at the places we call "home." This camp will be held at Wasatch Community Gardens in the morning and Tracy Aviary in the afternoon.  No Before Care available.

Art-Savvy Scavengers
Bad Dog Arts Partner Camp

July 31-August 4, 9am-4pm
Price: $260
One bird’s trash is another bird’s treasure! In this full-day camp, campers will spend mornings discovering the recycling that goes on in nature, including meeting some feathered members of the planet’s clean-up crew. Campers will then do a bit of scavenging themselves, giving recycled materials new life as incredible works of art under the guidance of artists from Bad Dog Arts. Drop-off and pick-up are both at Tracy Aviary.

Grades Second and Third

Talented Talons
June 5-9, 9am-12pm
Price: $130
Birds have inspired artists for centuries and now it’s your turn! Creativity will soar during this week of exploring the beauty of birds in art and culture at Tracy Aviary. Campers will meet birds of all colors, shapes, and sizes while creating paintings, sculptures, murals, and more. Each day we will focus on a different type of bird-inspired art, allowing your camper to stretch their wings trying new things.

Wet and Wild Waterfowl
June 5-9, 1pm-4pm
Price: $130
Campers will make a splash this week as we explore the wet and wild worlds of swans, ducks, geese, and more! We will cool off while the weather gets hot, toss fish to our flock of pelicans, race like a duckling, and fold paper into beautiful swans. Let your child jump into this week of camp—the water’s fine!

Birdie Buddies
Camp Kostopulos Partner Camp
June 26-30, 9am-4pm
Price: $300
There are so many friends to be made if we embrace each other’s differences! This week, campers will spend mornings at Camp K experiencing hiking, swimming, and low ropes courses, building memories and friendships. Campers will then spend afternoons at Tracy Aviary meeting often misunderstood birds and learning about how those birds help our planet! Transportation between sites is included. No Before Care available. Note: In addition to Tracy Aviary forms, all registrants need Camp K's Waiver Form and Health Form.

Start your mornings at Tracy Aviary, exploring the dinosaurs that live among us today—birds! Find out what makes a bird a bird and discover the amazing adaptations that allow them to live in diverse environments across the globe. At the Natural History Museum of Utah each afternoon, we’ll delve into the science of paleontology. Discover how fossils are formed, where we find them, and meet some of the people who prepare and study fossils at the Museum. Drop camper off at Tracy Aviary by 8:30am and pick up at NHMU by 4:30pm. Transportation between sites is provided. No Before/After Care available.

Daring and Dazzling Displays
Bad Dog Arts Partner Camp

July 17-21, 9am-4pm
Price: $260
When it comes to grabbing attention, birds have the tools and the moves to steal the show! In this full-day camp, campers will spend mornings exploring flashy feathers and delightful dances to find out just what all that glam is good for. In the afternoons campers will be inspired by those bold birds to create amazing works of art with artists from Bad Dog Arts. Drop-off and pick-up are both at Tracy Aviary.

Avian Allies
Camp Kostopulos Partner Camp

June 26-30, 9am-4pm
Price: $300
In this camp, we are standing up for those who are different from us—human and bird alike! Campers will spend mornings at Tracy Aviary meeting birds who are often misunderstood, learning how those birds are vital to our planet, and exploring how we can be allies for our feathered friends. Campers will then spend afternoons at Camp K, getting to know how we are all different and similar as they work together in activities like hiking, swimming, and ropes courses. Transportation between sites is included. No After Care available. Note: In addition to Tracy Aviary forms, all registrants need Camp K's Waiver Form and Health Form.

Dinosaurs are still among us! Campers will delve into the science of paleontology—from the field to the lab—while at NHMU. Discover how fossils are formed, where we find them, and meet some of the people who prepare and study fossils at the Museum. Find out what makes a bird a bird and discover the adaptations that allow them to live in diverse environments across the globe. Avian Explorers
August 14-18, 9am-12pm
Price: $130
This summer, your child can spend a week discovering what it takes to be a bird professional. From ornithologists studying wild birds to talented trainers and keepers at Tracy Aviary, campers will experience first-hand what it means to be a bird expert. This camp offers campers the chance to learn how to be avid birders, conduct ornithological experiments, and participate behind-the-scenes with our keepers. They may come as a camper, but they’ll leave an expert!

Nasty Nature
August 14-18, 1pm-4pm
Price: $130
Gooey grubs, saliva mud nests, vulture vomit—some may say “Yuck!” but we say “Awesome!” Allow your child to join us for a fascinating week of bird grossology as we explore some of the less refined habits of the bird world, and discover what remarkable survival strategies they are. Campers will dissect owl pellets, get an up-close look at mud nests, and meet birds up close and personal to get to the bottom of what’s so important about all of this ick.

Grades Fifth through Seventh

Dinosaurs Among Us
Salt Lake Arts Academy Partner Camp

June 19-23, 9am-4pm
Price: $260
Not only did dinosaurs not die out—they now inhabit every continent and ocean in the world! In this camp, spend mornings with Salt Lake Arts Academy, learning all about how dinosaurs evolved into birds and creating art projects based on this incredible part of our planet’s history. Then visit Tracy Aviary in the afternoons to marvel at the diversity of modern-day dinosaurs and meet them nose-to-beak! Counselors will walk campers between locations. No Before Care available.

Grades Sixth through Eighth

Tracy Aviary Field School
July 10-14, 8am-4pm
Price: $280
Get hands-on with Tracy Aviary in this week of scientific study in the field! Find out what we can learn about wildlife from what they leave behind. Help out at a banding station to learn how scientists use this method to track populations. Try your hand at plant identification and pressing as you get to know a horticulturist. Hone your bird identification skills and conduct real bird surveys in local ecosystems. This is just a sampling of the fun we’ll have as we dive into the exciting world of field work!

Tracy Aviary Field School – Migration Edition!
August 7-11, 8am-4pm

As summer winds down, our ecosystems head into a time of great change. Having raised their chicks, many birds are preparing for fall migration: an incredible journey vital to their survival. What do we know about this journey, and what remains a mystery? This week, we will answer these questions and try out the tools and techniques needed to study the mysteries of migration.

Camp Before and After Care

Campers enrolled in these programs will spend an hour at the beginning/end of each camp day under the supervision of our camp staff, providing parents with additional pick-up/drop-off flexibility. Before Care campers must be dropped off promptly at 8:00am. After Care campers must be picked up by 5:00pm.

Before/After Care sessions are available in week-long packages of $25 each. Please note that before/after care is NOT available for off-site partner camp sessions.

Before Care: 8:00am-9:00am
After Care: 4:00pm-5:00pm

Cancellation Policy

In the event that your child cannot attend the camp he/she is registered for…

Tracy Aviary Only Camps: 

  • If at least 14 days notice prior to camp start date is provided, 100% refund of registration fees
  • If at least 7 days notice, but less than 14 days notice prior to camp start date is provided, 50% refund of registration fees
  • If cancelled less than 7 days before the start date of camp, no refund of registration fees
  • If Tracy Aviary must cancel a camp, registrants will be notified no less than the Monday before the day of camp and will be granted either a full refund or the option to enroll in future camps.


Partner Camps:

Tracy Aviary’s partners do not offer refunds for cancellations at any time. The portion of the registration fees kept by Tracy Aviary will be refunded according to the regulations stated in the above section. Questions about this policy? Contact us here

Arrival and Pick-Up

AM Sessions

If not enrolled in Before Care, children must be dropped off between 8:45am and 9:00am. At no time may any child be left unattended. Children must be picked up promptly at 12pm if not attending the PM camp session. 

PM Sessions

Children must be dropped off between 12:45 and 1pm. At no time may any child be left unattended. If not enrolled in After Care, children must be picked up promptly at 4pm.

All-Day Campers

If not enrolled in Before Care, children must be dropped off between 8:45am and 9:00am. At no time may any child be left unattended. Lunch hour from 12pm-1pm is staff monitored and campers do not need to be picked up during this time. If not enrolled in After Care, children must be picked up promptly at 4pm.

Lunch and Snacks

All-day campers will enjoy a supervised lunch break between 12pm and 1pm. Campers must bring their own lunch.
A snack is provided for all campers during each AM and PM camp session.
Dietary restrictions are observed, however campers with extensive food allergies may want to bring their own snacks.

Camper Experience

Tracy Aviary takes the physical and emotional well-being of its campers very seriously, and strives to create a positive, warm, and supportive atmosphere in all of its programs. Our camps are strict No Bullying Zones and place a strong emphasis on developing healthy relationships with people, animals, and the natural world.
