NEW! Teen Advisory Board: Starting summer 2018, Tracy Aviary is hosting Teen STEM Cafés! Learn about Teen STEM Cafés here. Our Teen Advisory Board members plan and facilitate fun and interactive evenings in which scientists and other STEM professionals share wonders of the natural and built worlds through activities and discussion. Build your professional skills while steering a whole series of programs at Tracy Aviary! A 3 month (approximately 6 hour) commitment is required, but teens are encouraged to participate all summer long.
Citizen Science: Help our team of citizen scientists conduct non-breeding bird surveys at study sites throughout Salt Lake County. These surveys generate information about local birds and their habitats, and help guide bird-friendly restoration and habitat management. **Most non-breeding bird surveys are off-site. Personal transportation to field sites is required.
Education: Inspire curiosity and caring by helping our guests connect with birds and nature! Aid in creating new bird nerds by bringing out artifacts, telling a story about our birds, or connecting with program participants! Strong communication skills are highly encouraged for this volunteer position. **Education volunteers are required to complete our training program. Next training begins April 14th, 2018.
Facilities: Work closely with our maintenance staff on special construction and renovation projects to improve Tracy Aviary's grounds. Specialized skills are preferred but not required.
Garden Assistant: Tracy Aviary grounds are considered an urban oasis for both birds and people. We strive to create beautiful and inspiring gardens filled with native and interesting plants. We’d love to have you join and promise you’ll catch on quickly.
Special Events: Help make Tracy Aviary-wide events a success for guests of all ages. These volunteers assist with activities, crafts, and guest interactions during special events like Urban Bird Festival, International Vulture Awareness Day, Halloween Hoot, and more!
