New Year, More Aviary

What are your family’s New Year resolutions for 2019? Volunteer more? Eat more fruits and veggies? How about spending more time at Tracy Aviary?

Our resolution is to give all members of your family more opportunities to play, laugh, and learn while enjoying birds and nature in Salt Lake City. So let’s get together! Here’s a sneak peek into what we have planned for the first few months of 2019…

  • Taking Flight Nights: On the second Tuesday of each month (yes, even in the winter), teens (13+) are invited to spend the evening at the Aviary hanging out with other like-minded teens and meeting real-world scientists and change-makers. The first Taking Flight Night of 2019 is on January 8th.

  • Tracy Aviary Salutes: Do you have any scouts in your family? This is a special day for the Aviary to celebrate all Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts with $1 admission for any scout in uniform, plus awesome activities and prizes! It’s all happening on February 23rd.

  • Great Backyard Bird Count: From February 15th-18th, The National Audubon Society and Cornell Lab of Ornithology team up with citizen scientists (aka, you and us) to count the birds found in our backyards! Tracy Aviary will be leading activities for the whole family during this time (stay tuned for details).

  • Little Chicks: Bring your 2-5 year-old to the Aviary for an hour a week for a guardian-and-me style class full of crafts, games, and nose-to-beak bird experiences with Bird Show stars. The next six-week series starts February 6th.

  • Spring Break Camp: This year we’re teaming up with Playwell TEKnologies to provide our best spring break camp yet! Kids in 1st-5th grade will enjoy learning about birds for half of their day and engineer with LEGOS for the rest – all while staying at Tracy Aviary. Beats finding daycare, huh? This year, Salt Lake City School District’s spring break is March 25th-29th.
