Partner Spotlight: Wasatch Community Gardens!

Summer will be here before you know it, and we are dreaming of sunny days and summer camps! That means our education team is putting their heads together with some of our favorite Salt Lake organizations to create fabulously fun camp activities.

We want to highlight our partner organization just down the street: Wasatch Community Gardens (WCG)! We co-host two summer camps jam-packed with gardening, games, and great friends (human and bird alike), one for 1st-2nd graders and one for 3rd-4th graders. It’s really a match made in outdoors heaven! Find out what topics we explore at https://tracyaviary.org/breakcamps/summercamps.

Although our summer campers spend time at just one of their gardens, WCG has a much bigger reach.

Wasatch Community Gardens by the Numbers:

  • 16 community gardens
  • 11 school gardens
  •  2 youth teaching gardens
  •  1 community education demonstration garden
  •  1 job training farm for women experiencing homelessness
  • 30 years serving Salt Lake County residents

Nearly 80% of the adults and children served through WCG programs in 2018 were from low- to moderate-income households.

With a mission to empower people of all ages and incomes to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food, there are so many reasons to love WCG! Join WCG in the garden this year for a hands-on workshop or volunteer opportunity, or check out one of their family-friendly community events, such as their Annual Plant Sale on May 11 or free Tomato Sandwich Party on September 7.
