Camp Frequently Asked Questions

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Unless otherwise stated:

A full refund (less a 20% processing fee) will be given, provided you notify the Education Department at least 14 days prior to the start date.

A refund will not be given if cancellation is made 14 or fewer days before the start date. However, non-refunded registration fees may be applied to a future camp with one year of the missed camp.

Refunds will not be issued for an illness unless a doctor's note is provided; however, registration can be applied toward a future camp within one year.

If Tracy Aviary must cancel a camp, registrants will be notified no less than the Monday before the day of camp. At that time, options for transferring registration fees and/or options for reimbursement will be shared.

Do you offer a member discount for camps?

Yes, Tracy Aviary members receive a discount on all youth camps and classes. Specific discounts are listed on registration pages.

Can I get a letter confirming my child's enrollment for tax purposes?

Tracy Aviary staff will no longer provide personalized letters of enrollment in camps or other programs. Please keep a copy of your confirmation email as your receipt.

What is Tracy Aviary's tax ID number?

It is 87-0514210.

Is there a deadline to register for camps?

Camp registration stays open until all spots are filled or up to 48 hours before the camp begins.

Do you offer a wait list?

Yes. Complete the form to join the waitlist. If there is a cancellation, we will reopen a ticket and distribute them in order of the waitlist.

May I enroll my child in a camp that is outside their age group?

Our camp curriculum is written to be developmentally appropriate for the age group indicated, and we find that campers have the best social experience when enrolled with other children in their grade. However, we take parental input seriously, so if you think that your child will do better in a different age group, please contact us prior to registration. Our educators are happy to assist you.

Do you offer extended care?

Yes, we offer Before Care from 8-9am and After Care from 4-5pm for a fee. Check each camp registration for Before and After Care availability and fees.

Where do I drop off my child for camp?

You may park in the lot just north of Tracy Aviary and proceed to our main entrance in the Visitor Center. Camp staff will meet you at the gate.

What are your check-in and check-out procedures?

Camp staff will meet you at the gate for check-in. We start 15 minutes before programs begin (either 7:45 for Before Care or 8:45 for regular check-in). Under no circumstances should you leave your child unattended with non-camp staff. A signature on the roster is required for camp check-in.

Check-out begins when camp ends in the classroom just east as you exit the gift shop. A signature is absolutely required when checking a child out, otherwise we cannot know if the child has left with the correct person.

If you are late for check-out, you will be charged the After Care fee.

Can I bring my child late or pick them up early?

Yes. However, we plan a fun-filled day of camp activities and encourage everyone to be on time to ensure the best possible, and least stressful, experience.

During Tracy Aviary Field School, we spend several days in the field away from Tracy Aviary grounds. This makes it difficult, sometimes impossible, to accommodate a late drop-off or early pick-up. We are happy to share our itinerary with you so that you may plan accordingly.

What should my child bring to camp every day?

Each camper should bring a reusable water bottle and lunch, plus shoes and clothes that are good for running and playing outside. We take every precaution to serve appropriate snacks, but if your child has severe dietary restrictions, we recommend that they pack their own snacks. We also recommend packing sunscreen with your child, but we do provide sunscreen if necessary.

What should my child leave at home?

Weapons of any kind are not allowed at Tracy Aviary. Tablets, Gameboys, and other expensive electronics should remain at home. Campers are allowed to bring a mobile device or smart phone to use during emergencies, lunch, and Before/After Care. However, we encourage campers to make new friends during their camp experience.

Do you provide lunch?

No. Campers must bring a lunch with them each day, and should bring one that is large enough to sustain them for a whole day of play and learning.

Can I give my child money to purchase lunch or snacks from the Bird Feeder Café?

No. Campers are not allowed to make purchases at the Bird Feeder Café or the gift shop while in camp.

Who can I contact during the day if I need to leave an emergency message?

Please contact Guest Services at 801-596-8500, ext. 100, and your message will be relayed to camp staff.

What are the behavior expectations for campers?

We have high expectations of our campers and ask that they follow directions and stay with the group. It is especially important that they keep their hands to themselves when around the birds and don't try to throw things, feed, yell at, or otherwise harass the birds. However, we do try to create a fun environment for campers to freely play and express themselves.

What is your bullying policy?

Tracy Aviary camps do not tolerate bullying of any kind and any issues will be quickly addressed by camp staff. If problems continue or escalate, we may have to contact parents.

Will my child come into direct contact with birds?

Generally, the only birds that we see are on exhibit and campers would not come into contact with them. Rare exceptions include Amazon Adventure and occasionally in our bird show. We do not obligate any campers to come closer to a bird than they are comfortable with.
