Birds & Brews: Migration Edition

August 31, 2018 7:00 pm

Birds and Brews presented by Momentum Recycling is back for a special adults only migration edition. Join us for beer by Fisher Brewing Company while exploring our grounds. You'll find telescopes to look up at the night sky and discover how you can help save migrating birds. You'll be alongside Tracy Aviary conservation scientists, University of Utah astronomers and other local experts, so feel free to pick brains and enjoy the good company and good beverages.

Jess Dwyer, leader of the Salt Lake Chapter of the International Dark Sky Association, will give an entertaining and informative talk about the importance of dark skies and conserving energy. Most importantly, we will learn small actions we can take to help save lives of migrating birds. Two-thirds of all songbirds migrate at night, and tow major migration routes converge in the Salt Lake Valley. As birds fly over SLC, they can become disoriented and collide with buildings. In just 20 surveyed downtown SLC blocks, citizen scientist found a total of 44 birds who didn't make it due to building collisions. Come and learn how you can help prevent this from happening.

All proceeds of the event will help benefit Tracy Aviary, so your ticket will help the world a little bit at a time.
