Facilities Assistant

The Facilities Assistant is responsible for supporting Facilities staff members in their daily maintenance of Tracy Aviary’s buildings, structures, and gardens. Under the direction of senior Facilities staff, they will be given the opportunity to learn more about the daily operation of a zoological facility and nature center.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Communicate with and take direction from their supervisor or other senior Facilities staff.
  • Horticulture work, such as weeding, mulching, and planting.
  • Maintenance work, such as painting, using small power tools, and simple woodworking.
  • Custodial work, such as cleaning bathrooms.
  • Assist Aviary staff in dealing with Facilities problems or emergencies. 
  • Assist in managing volunteer groups. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:  

  • Maintenance or horticulture (gardening) experience is helpful. Based on a candidate's skills or career goals, this position can be tailored to provide the best opportunity for growth.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Professionalism in quickly responding to emergent or sensitive situations.
  • General computer experience, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, are preferred.
  • This position involves lifting up to 60lbs and working in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Tracy Aviary staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or show proof of weekly negative test results as a qualification for employment. 

Comments:  

  • The Facilities Department is responsible for maintaining both Liberty Park and Jordan River Nature Center campuses, so reliable transportation to either locations is required. 
  • Facilities Assistant shifts are available daily from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.
  • Part- and full-time positions are available.
  • This position is seasonal from May thru August.
  • Pay is $13.50hr.
