Volunteer Coordinator & Horticulture Technician

The Volunteer Coordinator/Horticulture Technician is responsible for managing the volunteer program and general oversight of a portion of grounds. They will possess a drive to educate and inspire volunteers, and manage their experience. They will have a deep understanding through accumulated experience and education of appropriate horticultural practices for the Intermountain West.


Essential Functions:

● Manage and grow the volunteer program through effective recruitment, retention, and record keeping.
● Oversee the staff-led Volunteer Committee.
● Manage the volunteer budget.
● Maintain Tracy Aviary plants, trees, shrubs, and gardens by use of appropriate pruning, planting, transplanting, propagation, irrigation, and IPM.
● Outreach to guests, community, Tracy Aviary education camps, etc. including tours and guest experiences
● Snow removal
● Assist Aviary staff in dealing with facilities problems or emergencies.


Qualifications:
Experience managing volunteers in a nonprofit setting. A bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field from an accredited university or college is strongly preferred. Experience also considered. An optimistic, inviting, lifelong learner’s attitude essential. Utah Pesticide Applicators License encouraged.

Typical work week is Tuesday - Saturday 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends. This is a full time, benefited position. $14.00 -15.00/hour depending on experience.
