SUMMARY:Linocut Printmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for at the Nature Center at Pia Okwai for a relief printing linocut workshop with Jeanette Lukens\, Liberty Park’s former Artist in Residence! \nParticipants (age 16+) will be guided through designing\, carving\, and printing a small linoleum block on 5”x7” paper\, and will also create and carve a small chop or signature stamp to use on prints.  The theme of the workshop will be creating prints of small songbirds\, but participants are welcome to create an image of anything they would like.  Participants will leave the workshop with their carved linoleum block\, chop\, and several copies of their print on a variety of papers. \n\nAll necessary tools and supplies will be provided.\nCarving tools will be available for purchase at the end of the workshop for any interested participants.\nNo previous experience required.\n\n\nDate: Friday\, May 15\, 2026 \nTime: 6-8pm \nLocation: Nature Center at Pia Okwai (3310 South 1000 West\, South Salt Lake\, UT 84119) \nTicket Price: $60 \nTickets \nRefunds: Due to the limited capacity and high demand for these events\, refunds are available if cancellation is made 48 hours before the event. Please email events@tracyaviary.org if you need to cancel. \n\n\nFeatured Artist \nJeanette Lukens is a relief print maker working mostly with wood and linoleum blocks that are hand-carved and hand-printed.  While the majority of her work consists of black and white prints of iconic southwest landmarks\, she also creates color prints using a reduction process or multiple blocks. \nJeanette participates regularly in juried art shows and markets throughout Utah\, and her work can be found at Four Lemons art gallery and the Tracy Aviary\, where she recently completed an Artist’s Residency Program. \nWhat are Relief Prints? \nRelief prints are produced by removing bits of wood or linoleum from a block\, and then rolling ink onto the remaining block to create an image. White areas are removed or carved out of the block using specialized tools. Black or colored areas print from the bits of block that remain. \n\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n\n \n	\n\n	\n	\n	\n\n	\n\n\nPurchasing Prints \nVisit Jeanette’s website or Instagram to purchase original\, hand-printed images (these are not copies of an original work; they are the originals\, generally in a series of 10\, 20\, or 40). Purchased prints are unframed and shipped for free; however\, framing can be requested with an additional fee.
