Custodial and Event Setup Assistant

Custodial Assistants are detail-oriented staff who work to maintain the cleanliness of facilities and grounds at Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park, and at the Jordan River Nature Center. They will work indoors and outdoors moving trash cans, cleaning public spaces, restrooms and offices, and maintaining tidy walkways. They will also ensure that the Chase Mill at Tracy Aviary is clean and follow drawings to set up rented tables and chairs for events. They possess the ability to work independently and with a team, and have good communication, organization, and attention to detail.

Job status: Part time, non-benefited, non-exempt

Schedule: Flexible schedules between 6:30 am and 5 pm, up to 30 hours

Compensation: $13.50 - $14.50/hr depending on experience

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning restrooms
  • Cleaning guest spaces and offices
  • Removing trash from buildings
  • Following a trash pickup schedule and moving trash bins around grounds
  • Maintaining clean and tidy walkways and paths by sweeping, raking, hosing, and snow removal
  • Following drawings to set up and take down events
  • Communicating with the Facilities Manager and Operations team by email, text, and radio
  • Other tasks related to Tracy Aviary’s Operations department


  • Experience in custodial or housekeeping preferred but not required
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs, move tables and chairs, and work in all weather conditions

Tracy Aviary staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or show weekly negative COVID-19 test results
