Lead Custodial and Event Setup Technician

The Lead Custodial and Event Setup Technician is responsible for detail oriented work to maintain the cleanliness of facilities and grounds at Tracy Aviary, as well as assuring the event spaces at Tracy Aviary are clean and set up for events. Responsibilities include deep cleaning and waste removal in restrooms, education spaces, offices, and our grounds; inventory control; product distribution; related maintenance activities; and supervision of custodial staff and volunteers.  They will have an understanding through accumulated experience and education of appropriate cleaning techniques. Possess problem solving, communication, and organizational skills. They will stay up-to-date on assigned schedules and identify areas for improvement with minimal intervention from supervisors.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Maintain weekly and monthly schedules of daily and deep cleaning projects.  
  • Cleaning; rental, office, public facilities, and restrooms.  
  • Maintenance of public and staff walkways through hosing, blowing, or shoveling to provide a clean and tidy appearance.
  • Monitor garbage and recycling bins daily, prep for curbside pick-up.
  • Review calendar and event schedule to properly adjust cleaning schedule. 
  • Supervise the Custodial Assistants and volunteers. 
  • Perform maintenance work requests as directed.  
  • Facilitate the success of maintenance, custodial, and horticulture staff and volunteers by setting an example of good work ethic, helping with projects, and teamwork.
  • Communicate issues, problems, needs, and accomplishments to supervisor and senior staff as necessary.  
  • Assist Aviary staff in dealing with facilities problems or emergencies.  

Job Qualifications:  

  • Flexibility to juggle multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to communicate with staff across departments about cleaning and maintenance schedules and projects.
  • Knowledge of appropriate cleaning procedures and materials.
  • Possess effective problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • General computer experience including internet use, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs are preferred.
  • Experience with hand and power tools, including their maintenance.
  • This position involves lifting of up to 60 lbs. and working in all weather conditions.


The work week varies based on events schedule. Typical work week is Tuesday-Friday, and alternating Saturdays and Sundays from 6:30 am - 3 pm This is a full time benefited position.  32-40 hours/week at $15.00 -16.00/hour, depending on experience.
