Part Time Facilities Assistant
Tracy Aviary – Liberty Park Campus & Nature Center at Pia Okwai
The Facilities Assistant plays a critical role in meeting Tracy Aviary’s mission to inspire curiosity and caring for birds and nature through education and conservation. They are responsible for detail oriented work to maintain the cleanliness of facilities and grounds at Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park, and at The Nature Center at Pia Okwai campus. Responsibilities include deep cleaning, waste removal, restrooms, education spaces, offices, and our grounds. Candidates must possess the ability to stay up-to-date on assigned schedules and projects.They effectively work independently and as part of a team, working indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Completing daily, weekly and quarterly Custodial tasks to provide a safe, clean, and tidy appearance of Tracy Aviary’s grounds. Including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restrooms, restocking supplies, blowing walks, and cleaning and sanitizing surfaces.
- Occasionally horticulture and maintenance projects as assigned.
- Communicating with Assistant Facilities Manager or Facilities Manager when there are any issues surrounding custodial processes or other needs that may arise.

Position Details
Status: Part time, non-exempt
Schedule: 8 – 12 hr /wk, We are currently seeking applicants to fill shifts on the following days:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 6:30AM- 10:30AM at our Liberty Park campus.Additional shifts may also be available Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday based on operational needs and applicant availability at both our Liberty Park campus and The Nature Center at Pia Okwai in South Salt Lake. Some schedule flexibility is available on these days.
Compensation: $15 – $16/ hr depending on experience

Horticulture Assistant
Job Title: Horticulture Assistant
Designation: Non-exempt, part-time, non-benefitted, seasonal
Season Dates: March 16 – October 31, 2026
Schedule: 10 – 40 hr/ week, depending on applicants
Compensation: $16.00 – $17.25/ hr, depending on experience
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain Nature Center at Pia Okwai plants, trees, shrubs, and gardens by use of appropriate planting, pruning, transplanting, propagation, irrigation, and integrated pesticide management
- Provide regular mowing, string trimming, and care to lawns
- Assist in guiding regular groups of volunteers in horticulture projects
- Open and close Nature Center when scheduled, this may include cleaning restrooms, escorting guests to gates, locking facilities, and other necessary duties for Nature Center function and security
- Assist fellow staff in dealing with facilities problems or emergencies
- Outreach to guests, community, education camps, etc. including tours, events, and guest experiences primarily on-grounds and occasionally off-grounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- College degree in a related field or equivalent time of 1+ years of experience in horticulture, agriculture, landscaping, trail work, public speaking, volunteer management, or a related field
- Demonstrated interest for a career in the field of horticulture
- This position requires working in all weather conditions, lifting heavy supplies, the use of various hand and motorized tools, and following policy and procedures
- Effective in working well collaboratively and managing time efficiently
- Highly motivated, well organized, eager to take on new tasks and meet commitments
- Proficiency in Google Workspace
- Comfortable with power tools and learning their safety requirements
- Knowledge of and commitment to justice, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in the community and workplace
Special Requirements:
- Ability to remain active, lift more than 50 lbs, and move around a 12-acre and 9-acre, rugged campus for several hours at a time in all types of weather conditions.

Horticulture Technician
Job Title: Horticulture Technician
Designation: Non-exempt, benefitted, full-time
Schedule: 40 hr /wk, five work days per week, one must be Saturday or Sunday
Compensation: $18.00 – $19.25/ hr, depending on experience
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain NCPO and LPC plants, trees, shrubs, and greenhouse seedlings by use of appropriate planting, pruning, pesticide management, and other landscaping practices. This may include assisting the Horticulture Manager or Volunteer Coordinator in managing their assigned tasks.
- Lead regular groups of volunteers in horticulture projects
- Design sustainable gardens and landscapes in meetings led by Horticulture Manager and Director of Operations
- Outreach to guests, community, education camps, etc. including tours, events, social media posts, and guest experiences primarily on-grounds
- Open or close either campus when scheduled, this may include cleaning restrooms, escorting guests to gates, locking facilities, and other necessary duties for function and security
- Assist fellow staff in dealing with facilities problems or emergencies
- Occasionally assistance with Guest Experience and Events staff when needed, including leading snow removal efforts in winter
Preferred Qualifications:
- College degree in a related field is preferred or equivalent time of 2+ years of experience in horticulture, botany, agriculture, landscaping, trail work, or volunteer management
- Demonstrated interest for a career in the field of horticulture
- This position involves working in all weather conditions, lifting heavy supplies, the use of various hand and motorized tools, and following policy and procedures
- An earnest, inviting, lifelong learner’s attitude is essential

Bird Conservation Field Technician
Job Title: Bird Conservation Field Technician
Job Status: Seasonal, Full-time (40hrs/wk).
Relationships: Reports to Conservation Ecologist. Works with volunteers and members of the public.Location: Field Work (60%) Tracy Aviary’s Nature Center at Pia Okwai (30 %) Tracy Aviary at Liberty Park (10%)
Benefits: Access to Health Insurance, Paid time off, Sick leave, access to 403b retirement with company match available after 1 year.
Schedule: Varies. Field work is conducted during early mornings, starting at dawn. Generally Wednesday through Sunday, but with some flexibility.
Job Summary: Tracy Aviary’s Conservation Science Program helps conserve birds and their habitats through community science. Focusing on key local habitats and pressing regional conservation issues, our goals are to gather novel information about local avian ecology, inform habitat restoration and stewardship, and engage a diverse community in scientific data collection. Tracy Aviary is offering one 6-month field technician position that will provide on-the-ground experience in avian conservation science.
Tracy Aviary conducts year-round community science bird surveys at 12+ study sites throughout the Salt Lake region. These surveys help answer questions about the impact of restoration, management, and habitat alteration on bird communities, and provide a basis for
recommendations on bird-friendly practices at these sites. We also partner with Audubon Rockies and Audubon Saline Lakes to conduct Snowy Plover monitoring surveys on the south shore of Great Salt Lake.Primary Duties:
Year-round Bird Monitoring in the Salt Lake Valley (70%):- Conduct early morning point count surveys at riparian and wetland study sites throughout the Salt Lake region.
- Conduct vegetation surveys at point count points
- Assist with training sessions for Community Science volunteers
Snowy Plover Nest Monitoring (20%) : - Participate in nest searching and monitoring of reproductive success for Snowy Plovers
Data review & office work (10%): - Attend weekly department meetings and Plover Project planning meetings
- Enter and proof BSS data
- Support preparation of reports for BSS survey sites
- Support other conservation projects as needed
Qualifications:

- Able to hike in difficult, hot terrain for 3 miles
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with bird/habitat IMBCR survey methods

Salary: $2,900/mo
Position Dates: March – August 2026 (6-month position, exact start and end dates flexible).
