Diet
The common goldeneye dives, often with other goldeneyes, underwater in search of aquatic invertebrates, small fish, and vegetation.
Habitat
Inhabits rivers, lakes, and bays. Uses forested wetlands for breeding.
Nesting
Lays 5-16 eggs in a tree cavit nest lined with downy feathers. It is common for a female to use the same cavity year after year. Chicks leave the nest within 2 days after hatching.
