Let's Get Social

April's Bird of the Month is the Black-necked Stilt! You can find these long-legged marvels in South American Pavilion.✨

🍏Diet
Feeds mainly on aquatic invertebrates, occasionally fish, reptiles, and amphibians.

🌳Habitat
Inhabits freshwater and saltwater marshes, rice fields, shallow lagoons, mangrove swamps, and mudflats.

🪹Nesting
Builds a depression nest about 2 inches deep and lines the nest with dry weeds and twigs. Lays 1-5 eggs, and incubation is 21-26 days.

💡Did you know?
Members of this genus have the second-longest legs in proportion to their bodies of any bird, exceeded only by flamingos!
With summer approaching, don't forget to check out our summer camp offerings! ☀️

Through Birds Around the World, youth ages 6–8 will go on an adventure through the eyes of birds without having to travel outside of Liberty Park! Each day they'll get to explore a different region of the globe and meet the birds that call them home. They'll also gain knowledge about the language and culture of those regions. 🌍

Coscoroba Swans are a striking waterfowl species with their white plumage and red beak and legs. Unlike the Trumpeter Swan who has fully white plumage, Coscoroba Swans have some black coloration on the tips of their primary feathers. If you're lucky enough to be nearby when they open their wings, see if you can spot the coloration! #WaterfowlWednesday
