Diet
The great horned owl regularly hunts at night using its excellent sense of hearing and eyesight. It has a broad diet of small mammals, rabbits, reptiles, insects, and even other birds. It is the only animal that regularly eats skunk.
Habitat
Prefers open forests, but can be found in a variety of habitats.
Nesting
Nests in trees, on cliffs, on buildings, and on the ground. The female lays 1-5 eggs. Incubation period is 30-37 days.
Did you know?
Even though the female is larger than the male, the male’s hooting call is deeper. Pairs can be heard calling to each other in different pitches.
