Inhabits forests, forest edges, and fringe forests along watercourses.
Nesting
Pair builds a delicate nest of sticks and twigs high off the ground. Lays 2 eggs, which are incubated by both the male and the female. Incubation is about 23 days.

The violet turaco gets its red color from a special kind of copper pigment, turacin. The turacin comes from the food they eat, so it takes several months before turacos have their adult colors.
