White-faced Ibis

Diet

Eats insects, crustaceans, earthworms, frogs, snails, and small fish. The tip of its beak has sensitive nerve endings, allowing it to find prey by its sense of touch.

Habitat

Inhabits freshwater, saltwater marshes, and flooded fields. Occasionally found on ponds and rivers.

Nesting

Nests in shallow waters using cattail stems and bulrushes to construct its nest. Lays 3-4 pale blue-green eggs, and incubation is 21-22 days.

Did you know?

Great Salt Lake is the largest nesting area for white-faced ibis with about 7,500 individuals nesting there each year.
