If your organization or group is early in the process of implementing decolonial practices, we recommend that you consider developing a statement of place. Our statement of place is, "Tracy Aviary and the Nature Center at Pia Okwai are located in the Newe (Sosogoi/Shoshone; Kutsipiuti/Goshute) and Núuchiu (Yuta/Ute) territories. The state of Utah where we are located is named after the Yuta-Shoshone peoples, and also includes Nuwuvi (Paiute) and Diné (Navajo) territories." You can learn more about how we developed our statement of place and find resources to help you and your organization research and start using Indigenous place names by clicking the link in our bio and navigating to "Our Name & Resources"
