In 2024, we began an exciting wildlife tracking project at Utah’s Great Salt Lake, focusing on two remarkable shorebird species: the Snowy Plover and the Wilson’s Phalarope. Using an automated Radio telemetry technology called the Motus Wildlife Tracking Network. We can follow these birds’ incredible journeys as they migrate across vast distances. By attaching small, lightweight radio tags to carefully captured nesting birds, we can map out exactly where these birds travel, uncovering the critical locations they depend on for rest and refueling during their long migrations.
