When disturbed, tawny frogmouths stiffen their body and close their eyes to resemble a branch. This behavior is called “stumping.” They eat large insects and other invertebrates, including scorpions, spiders, and centipedes and sometimes eat small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
This past weekend our team was grateful to participate again in the Wuda Ogwa Planting Days, a restoration project led by the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation near Preston, Idaho. Wuda Ogwa is Shoshoni for “Bear River”, and this land was crucial for their survival during the harsh winters for centuries until January 29th, 1863, when the Bear River Massacre occurred.
Over the course of two days, thirteen thousand native trees, shrubs, and forbes were planted. We are proud to support the restoration and reclamation of this sacred land. Learn more about the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation and the restoration project at https://nwbshoshone.com.
