Diet
Grasses, sedges, aquatic plants, crops, mollusks, and insects.
Habitat
Rivers, small lakes, pools, and marshes in well-wooded country or Arctic tundra. Winters in freshwater or brackish wetlands, floodplains, rice fields, and meadows.
Nesting
Lays 8-10 greyish-green eggs. Incubation (24-25 days) and care of ducklings is done by the female alone.

Baikal teal are largely nocturnal on their wintering grounds, often waiting until late afternoon to start foraging.
