Diet
The barn owl has an excellent sense of hearing and low-light vision. It uses its acute senses to catch small mammals during the night.
Habitat
Prefers open habitats such as grasslands, marshes, and deserts on every continent except Antarctica.
Nesting
Nests in tree cavities, on cliffs, on buildings, and in nest boxes. Nesting material is primarily made of shredded owl pellets. Lays 2-18 eggs with an incubation period of 29-34 days.
Did you know?
As many as 46 types of barn owl have been identified. The largest is in North America and weighs twice as much as the smallest, which inhabits the Galapagos Islands.
