West African Black-Crowned Crane

Diet

Its diet consists of insects, fish, seeds, and other crops.

Habitat

The West African crowned crane lives mainly in wetlands and grasslands but will nest and forage in uplands near wetlands.

Nesting

Nest is circular and built along the edges of the wetlands. Clutch size is 2-5 eggs and incubated for 28-31 days. Fledging is at 60-100 days.

All species of cranes dance to strengthen bonds. Crowned cranes have a distinctive dance that includes bobbing their heads prior to bowing, wing stretches, leaping and flapping wings, and circling one another.
