Diet
The burrowing owl hunts all day and night long and is most active in the morning and evening. Primarily hunts for arthropods and small mammals; some amphibians and reptiles.
Habitat
Dry open areas with no trees and short grass.
Nesting
Lays 2-12 eggs in a burrow usually dug by a mammal. This burrow can be several feet long, with numerous twists and turns. Incubation is 28-30 days and fledging occurs 44 days after hatching.
Did you know?
The burrowing owl collects mammal dung and puts it in and around its burrow. This attracts dung beetles, which the owl then captures and eats.
