Diet
This duck feeds by dabbling and upending in shallow water. Eats seeds, aquatic plants, and grasses; occasionally mollusks and insects.
Habitat
Irrigated meadows and lakes near wooded areas in lowland valleys. This duck winters on rivers, flooded meadows, and sometimes coastal lagoons and estuaries.
Nesting
Builds a nest on the ground among vegetation and near water. Lays 6-9 eggs, and incubation is 24-26 days.
