Green Heron

Butorides virescens

Diet

Most of their diet consists of small fish, but they may also eat a variety of invertebrates, amphibians, and small mammals.

Habitat

Green Herons are generally found in wetland habitats. They are most common around small fresh bodies of water. 

Nesting

Green Herons form mated pairs each breeding season. They build nests in vegetation near the water, and lay clutches of 3-5 eggs.  

Did you know?

Green Herons are relatively short and stocky compared to other herons.
