Diet
The hooded merganser dives underwater to feed on fish, crayfish, and aquatic insects.
Habitat
Found in wetlands, along coastlines, and in open waters.
Nesting
During breeding season, the hooded merganser goes to forested wetlands where it nests in tree cavities and lays 9-11 eggs. This species occasionally lays eggs in nests other than its own. As many as 44 eggs have been found in one nest.
