Diet
Berries, fruit, roots, invertebrates; occasionally other birds, mammals, reptiles, and carrion.
Habitat
Prefers wooded valleys and forests along subalpine scrublands of South Island New Zealand.
Nesting
Lays 2-4 eggs in crevices under rocks or hollow logs. Incubation is about 4 weeks, and fledging is around 13 weeks from hatching.
