Diet

Eats aquatic invertebrates and plants. In winter, it may eat worms, insects, mollusks, and even small frogs.

Habitat

Found in shallow lakes with dense vegetation.

Nesting

Lays 5-8 eggs in a scrape nest made of twigs, aquatic plants, reeds, and dry grasses.
