Ring-necked Duck

Diet

The ring-necked duck dives underwater to feed on submerged plants, aquatic invertebrates, and mollusks.

Habitat

Found in lagoons, marshes, swamps, and bogs.

Nesting

The female builds a bowl-shaped nest among dense vegetation near water. Lays 6-14 eggs. Incubation is 25-29 days and chicks leave the nest within 2 days after hatching.

Did you know?

During fall migration the ring-necked duck congregates in huge flocks, often numbering several thousand.
