Roseate Spoonbill

Diet

Small fish and aquatic invertebrates, including shrimp, crayfish, and crabs.

Habitat

Native to South America mostly east of the Andes, and in coastal regions of the Caribbean, Cental America, Mexico, and the Gulf Coast of the United States.

Nesting

Creates a stick nest in shrubs or trees, often mangroves. Lays 2-5 eggs that are incubated for 22-25 days. Fledging occurs at approximately 5-6 weeks after hatch.

Did you know?

A young roseate spoonbill has white feathers with a slight pink tinge on the wings. This species doesn’t reach maturity and full color until it is three years old.
