Diet
Scaly-sided mergansers are diurnal feeders whose diet consists of fish and aquatic invertebrates.
Habitat
Scaly-sided mergansers prefer fast-flowing streams in well-forested areas.
Nesting
Nests are built in tree hollows near a waterway. Females will lay 10-11 creamy white eggs over a period of 15-16 days and will incubate independently.

This merganser’s breeding range is southeast Siberia, northeast China and North Korea. Winter range is central and southern China, southeast Russia, Korea, Japan, and occasionally Taiwan, Myanmar and Thailand.
