White-rumped shama

Kittacincla malabarica

 

Diet

Forages along the ground for insects and worms. Occasionally eats fruit.

Habitat

Found in tropical lowland forests, forest clearings, bamboo forests, and mangroves.

Nesting

Females builds the nest while the male stands guard. Lays 4-5 eggs, and incubation is about 15 days. Only the female incubates the eggs, but both parents feed the hatchling.

It is said that one of the first bird calls ever to be recorded was of this bird in the 1800’s.
