August 17 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join Tracy Aviary’s Horticulture and Conservation teams for a friendly walk for LGBTQ+ folks and allies through Utah’s stunning natural ecosystems, learning about native plants, pollinators, and wildlife.
Find us August 17, 2025 in the parking lot outside the Albion Grill in Alta, UT at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. We will meet at 9 A.M. sharp, and return to our vehicles by 12 P.M. Plan to add 15 minutes to and from your drive due to construction happening in the canyon!
This will be a moderate 1-2 mile walk, with both full sun and intermittent shade. Frequent stops and some incline is to be expected, although it is a heavily trafficked, well maintained trail. Bathrooms are available at the Trailhead. Mornings in the mountains can be chilly, and quickly heat up as the sun rises, and weather can rapidly change. Elevation and UV radiation can be intense for those who are not acclimated. Please dress for conditions, and wear appropriate shoes (close toed, arch/ankle support, and mud-positive). Bring your preferred form of sun protection, a water bottle, and trail snacks. There is a large parking lot at the Albion Grill and Alta Ski Shop, as well as parking on the street.
Expect frequently pausing to admire the summer wildflowers. Botanizers are welcome to split off at the end of the walk to expand their adventure into the mountains (trails to Cecret lake, Catherine’s Pass, and Devils Castle are all readily accessible from this path), but please check in with a host before leaving the group. Remember to recreate responsible, and Leave No Trace. In addition to the prolific wildflowers found throughout Albion Basin, we will likely see bumblebees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other wildlife.
Registrants will receive an email prior to the program with additional details including meeting location, contact info for hosts, and expected weather conditions.
See you there!
