In-Class Outreach Programs

No bus? No problem! Tracy Aviary’s dynamic educators can bring the joy of Tracy Aviary to your classroom with in-class programs meant to engage your student’s minds and senses while exploring STEAM topics through the lens of birds. In-class outreach programs are available to those located within a 1-hour drive of Tracy Aviary. For schools further away, please request a distance learning opportunity instead. Please note that these programs do not include live birds.

Pricing

$120 per outreach program / $60 per consecutive program booked for the same day and location

$180 per custom outreach program / $90 per consecutive custom program booked for the same day and location

Excess Mileage Fee Policy

Program price includes up to 50 miles of round-trip travel from Tracy Aviary. Excess mileage will be assessed at a fee of $1.00/additional round trip mile. We will ALWAYS assess excess mileage based on the shortest route to your site. The excess mileage fee also applies to Title 1 school.

In-Class Inquiry Programs

Tracy Aviary educators bring hands-on activities to your classroom or community meeting space to explore STEAM topics for grades Pre-K-12. Each program is thoughtfully designed to align with Utah SEEd Standards.

In-Class Inquiry Program Details

    • Occur indoors in a classroom setting
    • 45-60 minutes long
    • Limited to groups of up to 30 participants
    • Can be presented at the same location consecutively (one at a time) up to four times a day
    • Do not feature live birds
  • Pre-K-2nd Grades

    Nature Storytime

    • Aligned with SEEd standards for K-2nd grades.
    • Enjoy a nature-focused story read by Tracy Aviary educators, play active games, create a fun craft and more! Get your class outside and explore nature by choosing from one of our four topics: Homey Habitats, Seed Storytime, Trees and Leaves, and Backyard I Spy.  While these programs have been designed to take place outdoors, they can be modified to take place completely inside.
  • K-5th Grades

    Artsy Adaptations

    • Aligned with SEEd standards for K-5th grades.
    • Learn about the wonderful and beautiful adaptations birds have that help them survive in their habitats! In this program, Tracy Aviary educators will lead students in hands-on-activities such as biofact exploration, the dress-up game Build-a-Bird, and more! These highly interactive experiences will help students draw the connection between animals’ features and behaviors and the habitats that they live in.

    Winged Watershed Wonders

    • Aligned with SEEd standards for K-5th grades.
    • Protecting our water sources is important for both humans and birds! In this hands-on program, students will identify how biotic and abiotic factors influence water sources, explore the water cycle, and discover which birds you would find throughout our local watershed. Students will use a watershed model to discover how humans impact water quality and brainstorm ideas for keeping our water clean for everyone to enjoy.
  • 6th-8th Grades

    Egg-straordinary Eggs

    • Aligned with SEEd Standards for 6th-8th grades.
    • Discover the secrets of eggs, inside and out! Tracy Aviary educators will help participants explore a variety of bird eggs, participate in egg dissection, and more! Finish off this outreach by seeing how much weight an egg can really hold with our Egg-Smasher 3000 device. These highly interactive experiences will help students understand how these structures transform cells into chicks!

    Seasonal Survival

    • Aligned with SEEd Standards for 6th-8th grades.
    • Migration is one of the hardest parts of being a bird, so why do they do it? In this interactive program, students learn about what birds experience in their lengthy flight all while collecting and graphing data. Students will learn about the risks and pay-offs of going on journeys that can span hundreds or thousands of miles while celebrating the ways Utah’s wonderful wetlands help birds from around the world.
  • 9th-12th Grades

    Color in Flight

    • Aligned with SEEd Standards for 9th-12th grades.
    • Learn the science behind color through studying feathers, hands-on activities, and more. Tracy Aviary educators will lead activities and help participants learn about the structure of human eyes, what animals use color for, and how humans copy the best of nature’s designs to solve some of our most pressing problems.

    Birds Through the Ages 

    • Aligned with SEEd Standards for 9th-12th grades.
    • Travel across time following avian ancestors through their evolution with hands-on games and artifacts!

Outdoor Observations

Tracy Aviary educators work to connect students and community members to nature in their schoolyards, city parks, and other green spaces. Programs are thoughtfully aligned with Utah SEEd Standards and explore nature and conservation topics with grades K-12.

Outdoor Observations programs:

    Sensing the Seasons

    • Aligned with SEEd standards for K-5th grades.
    • Our senses can lead to amazing discoveries. Join our educators in experiencing how our senses are an important and vital part of scientific exploration through outdoor exploration and hands-on activities.

    Expression through Eco-Art 

    • Aligned with SEEd standards for K-5th grades.
    • Get creative with nature! Learn about Utah’s rich history of land art, explore their local area for inspiration and become artists themselves in this hour-long class. The class will end with an eco art stroll where the class will admire and positively critique each other’s art.
  • 6th-12th Grades

    Biodiversity Blitz

    • Aligned with SEEd Standards for 6th-12th grades.
    • Learn about the nature that exists all around us. Join our educators in conducting a biodiversity survey in your schoolyard, learn about urban ecology, and how to participate in citizen science projects.
Distance Learning

Too far away for us to visit? Request distance learning instead! All of our In-Class Inquiry Programs can be presented to your class via Zoom or whichever video conferencing platform you prefer. This option is included in our outreach request form (see calendar below).

Custom Programs

Don’t see quite what you’re looking for? Tracy Aviary welcomes requests for custom presentations for any class or community group. This can include aligning listed curriculum to different age groups or creating entirely new content just for our class. Customized content must be requested at least four weeks prior to the confirmed outreach date. Please keep in mind that not all custom requests can be fulfilled. We do not bring live birds to off-site programs.
